Neurodiagnostic Testing

ELECTROMYOGRAPHY (EMG): EMG is a neurodiagnostic test that has been used for decades to evaluate both sensory and motor function, especially in the extremities. EMG testing has a goal of quantifying and identifying nerve conduction abnormalities in the periphery as well as motor function abnormalities associated with certain diseases. EMG testing is minimally invasive because of the use of electrodes with pins attached. EMG testing is particularly important when evaluation of muscle function as well as sensory function is indicated in the management of the chronic pain patient. Otherwise, the less invasive but highly sensitive sensory nerve conduction threshold study by Neurometer CPT is frequently used in this practice.
