SUPRASCAPULAR NERVE BLOCK
Suprascapular notch block is a simple
procedure, usually used to treat suprascapular neuralgia. These
results in shoulder area pain and discomfort and pain in the area of
the belly of the supraspinatus muscle and tendon. The procedure
involves the use of a small needle to access the suprascapular notch
block, which lies lateral in the groove where the supraspinatus
tendon begins to form, and hugs the supraspinatus portion of the
scapula laterally. The patient is then injected with local
anesthetic and Depo-steroids to a tune of about 6 cc to 10 cc of
injection, to achieve a block and reduction of the pain.
COMPLICATIONS: Very rare to none.
CONTRAINDICATIONS: Other than allergy to medication and
anticoagulation or bleeding disorders, there are no significant
contraindications.
SEDATIVES: Not usually needed for this procedure.
